New features for Pirinexus 2019, the gravel event of the Pyrenees
29-03-2019The event, now part of Gravel Union, will take place on 15 June, offering a ‘Half’ option
For yet another year, the gravel event of the Pyrenees, now in its fifth edition, is one of the world’s leading gravel competitions.
New date: 15 June
The event will finally take place on 15 June. As has already been announced, the course will also go in the opposite direction to the usual route, heading northbound from the Camping Internacional de Sant Antoni de Calonge campsite, in the heart of the Costa Brava. Crossing the border in the Jonquera area, it will follow the Vallespir Valley Greenway before crossing the French border once again at the Coll d'Ares mountain pass. 50% of the route is on dirt tracks and 50% on asphalt, most of which are very quiet B-roads.
The Pirinexus Non-Stop Challenge
The event will follow Girona's greenways – old reconverted narrow-gauge railways – as well as other paths that have been restored and are now signposted and suitable for enjoying by bicycle throughout the Girona region, a true cycling paradise.
The PIRINEXUS 360 Challenge is a non-stop circular event with a distance of 340 km along the route known as PIRINEXUS. Participants start the day at sunrise and have until 12 a.m. to complete a route that takes in all types of terrain, asphalt roads, lots of track and some urban segments.
The Pirinexus Half Challenge
Participants also have the option of a ‘half’ route, which is shorter, covering a distance of only 115 km and is ideal for gravel novices or those who do not want cover as much ground as the Non-Stop event.
